Ultimately, recruitment is a sales job which involves building relationships with companies and those seeking new opportunities.

Your job as a recruitment consultant is to use these relationships to connect companies with IT professionals in the job market.

Recruitment consultants handle the entire process, from arranging interviews to negotiating salaries and handling the offer process.

What does a Recruitment Consultant do?

A day in the life of a recruitment consultant is incredibly varied, unpredictable, and fast paced. Everything a challenging career should be!

The job involves building a database of candidates that can be hired by companies, as well as developing relationships with these companies. Recruitment consultants are constantly building, developing and nurturing relationships.

Some responsibilities include business development, advertising, marketing, sourcing CVs, arranging interviews, providing feedback, negotiating contracts and handling the offer process.

What qualities do you need?

Our consultants share three common attributes; drive, ambition and resilience. If you don’t have all three, this isn’t the job for you.

To be successful in recruitment, you need to be proactive and eager to influence. You’ll also find that being organised and efficient are key to working smart.

We find that our best consultants come from a sales background (or are very persuasive) and have experience building rapport with different stakeholders.

Uncapped Commission

Recruitment is a sales driven job, and placing IT professionals with our clients is rewarded with excellent commission (paid monthly). We believe in rewarding effort, so our commission is paid from your first day and is completely uncapped. With hard work, perseverance and resilience, you can expect to take home significantly more than most of your peers. We have paid monthly paychecks over £20,000 on numerous occasions, with the current record over £24,000.

0-1 years’ experience expect to earn OTE of £30,000-£40,000
1-2 years’ experience expect to earn OTE of £40,000 - £50,000+
2-3 years’ experience expect to earn OTE of £50,000 - £100,000+

We have analysed our competition in Northern Ireland, and our commission scheme offers significantly more, with realistic opportunities to earn. With a commission scheme ranging up to 35% of a consultant's monthly billing, the earning potential in Reperio is phenomenal.

Within your first 6 months, you'll face the uphill struggle to build your reputation. However, when you do see success within this period, we will reward you with an extra bonus, alongside your commission. The start of your career

You’ll start your career in Reperio as a Trainee Recruitment Consultant, with the opportunities for growth and development left in your hands (with the help of a clear progression path). If you display the drive and ambition that we expect from all of our consultants, you can expect to move up the ladder quickly (it is not unusual to get a promotion even if you have started after someone else). Your promotion from Junior Consultant to Consultant usually takes place within 6-12 months.

Success story

Whilst studying for my degree, I worked alongside my dad in the family car business. I also worked in credit card sales for a financial services company in Sydney and also sold university courses on behalf of a large educational organisation. I really enjoyed the people side to these jobs.

During my time in Australia, I had friends who worked in recruitment and I began to learn how the industry worked. I did my research and then made the decision to return to Ireland and focus on finding a job that suited my career goals and was the right fit for me personally.

I applied to Reperio after researching the company and learning how they do things differently. Being based in Belfast primarily and focusing solely on the IT market in the Republic of Ireland, it was a no-brainer to apply to this company. With nearly every large IT company being based in the Republic of Ireland, there would certainly be no shortage of work available. I joined Reperio in early 2017 and nearly 7 years later, I have never looked back since.

It was a tough start, just like any new job. I knew it wasn’t going to be an easy ride and it’s true what they say, the more effort you put in within your first year or two in recruitment, the more it pays off in the long term, especially in contract recruitment.

Progression within Reperio is something I strive for every day, and is something that is totally achievable for anyone that joins. I am currently the Contracts Manager, leading a team of IT Contract Recruiters. I started out as a Trainee, progressing to Recruitment Consultant, Senior Recruitment Consultant, Team Lead and now my current role as Contracts Manager.

Reperio has a fantastic office culture, with colleagues always at hand to assist and most importantly, plenty of laughs over the years. The trips are unbelievable, I've been to Miami, Amsterdam, New York, Tampa, Oktoberfest (Munich), Malaga and Palma. Lunch club is another brilliant incentive which I love, heading out to the top restaurants around the city to let the hair down with the team. I also have to mention the new office in Bedford Street, the views are fantastic and the onsite gym is a big help as well.

There is no doubt about it, like any job there are highs and lows but I genuinely can’t think of a better job in terms of what can be achieved if you put the hard work in. There are so many perks to this job and I couldn’t recommend Reperio more to anyone thinking of starting out and progressing with a career in recruitment. No recruitment company in Belfast does it better.

If I had any advice for someone who is thinking of applying for a job in Reperio would be to do it! You’ll not regret it…
