According to a study from the IMD World Talent Ranking*, Ireland places 11th out of 67 economies worldwide for developing, attracting and retaining talent, ranking above both the US and UK. The USA was in 21st place, dropping 6 places from 15th in 2023 to 21st in 2024! Meanwhile, the UK placed 27th on this list.
Switzerland, Singapore and Luxembourg are the most competitive countries in the ranking with Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Netherlands, Hong Kong and Austria rounding out the top 10.
However, there is some negative factors that are harming Ireland's potential to move up the ranks further. Including:
- Spending on education
- Health infrastructure and
- Inflated cost of living
The areas where Ireland excelled in the study are:
- Attracting and retaining talent
- Worker motivation
- Labour force growth
- International experience and
- Competent senior managers
*The study from global business school IMD looks at how countries sustain the talent pool necessary for organisations to maximise their performances. The report draws on an in-depth survey of thousands of executives from 67 different economies, and more than two decades of data from the IMD World Competitiveness Center.
