The US Tech Industry
When thinking about the centres of the US tech industry, cities such as San Francisco and New York City spring to mind immediately. However, recent reports show that these cities do not have the highest growth of tech jobs and are not the most desirable locations for tech professionals.
Will Silicon Valley become a thing of the past?
In a recent study, Raleigh in North Carolina topped the list of the fastest-growing hot spots for tech professionals with 56.9% growth, closely followed by Omaha, Nebraska with 56.5% growth. Over the past five years, Raleigh and Durham have added 11,400 tech workers.
Also, Raleigh was ranked number three in the top 10 US cities for tech workers, according to personal finance company SmartAsset. This ranking evaluated nearly 200 cities on the average salary for tech jobs, cost of living, percentage of the workforce in the tech industry, unemployment rate and the ratio of tech pay to average pay.
About North Carolina
North Carolina has one of the most diverse business environments in the United States, from biotech and finance to craft brewing, tourism and manufacturing.
For three years, North Carolina has added more than 100,000 new residents annually. From 2017 to 2018 alone, the state’s population grew by 113,000 people. This may be attributed to the number of people who are leaving more expensive coastal states and moving to North Carolina in search of jobs and a better quality of life.
North Carolina is home to the ‘Research Triangle’ which is an area in the Raleigh-Durham area that is the epicentre of technology research and development. The research park’s proximity to three major research universities (Duke University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University) fosters collaboration between the business and educational communities.
What Jobs Are Demand in North Carolina?
